Our moral concepts are sometimes pushed away from completeness by virtue of the fact that most of the events in our personal lives tend to support the theory that there's a balance between good and evil that keeps us safe.

But we need to look deeper into the concept of evil to truly understand the weight on either side of that balance.

On 24 March 2015, a German airline pilot, Andreas Lubitz, intentionally flew his aircraft with 150 souls aboard into a mountainside in the French Alps, killing all.

This act was sanctioned by a human heart rotted of all concern for others. How does this occur? By which mechanism does a catastrophic event of this magnitude come to pass? How does our love for life and each other descend into such madness?
