So I am watching "Nobody Speak- Trials of the free press"

So I am currently glued to my TV watching a documentary about Hulk Hogans lawsuit against Gawker.com and I feel compelled to pause it at 46 mins and portray my opinion on the story so far.

nobody speak.jpgClearly, judging by the title and the story so far, the narrative is designed to make Gawker look like the innocent victim in this messy episode. Up to this point (46mins) the narrator uses the first amendment and the right to free speech in the defence of Gawker.

Listen, I totally recognize the importance of the media and the rights of the people to say whatever they want, without restriction or silencing from any higher order. BUT and I mean BUT, I find it hard to see how any press can feel hard done by when they make a living off digging up filth on other people. I am sorry but do not expect to keep your hands clean if your shoveling up shit all day every day. Releasing private video of sexual relations between any individuals and spreading that media all over the internet without their consent cannot be justified.

As I have mentioned above, I am currently 46 mins into this doc and it will be interesting to see if my opinion has shifted when it finishes. For the moment I say if you play with fire, you will get burned. Sites like Gawker cannot expect to get away with and profit from exclusively writing abusive articles about celebrities.

Its like I am reliving my childhood, ringside cheering on the Hulkster, hoping that he can rise from the canvas and defeat the villain once again.

What did you guys think of the documentary?
