How to transfer NAV coins stuck in Coinomi using Private Keys.

in #navcoin7 years ago (edited)

Since 11 December, after the latest hardfork of NAV Coin to 4.1.0, users have been having issues with exchanges. While Bittrex and other trading exchange have re-instated the wallet, Coinomi and Electrum are yet to fix the issue. Changelly, the exchange service, too has not reinstated NAV Coin. I too was in the unfortunate situation where my attempt to send NAV coins ended in failure. With support awfully lacking from both Coinomi and NAV, I scoured the internet for some steps to resolve this issue. There is a video available in Youtube but it was not descriptive enough to handhold me through the troubleshooting and the reddit post available at NAVCoin sub had missed out on a couple of steps, making me quit several times before resolving this problem eventually. I will attempt to condense the troubleshooting steps and make sure that you can check and follow through as we go.

These troubleshooting steps will export the private keys from your Coinomi wallet and transfer it to your NAVCore wallet.

What you need:

  1. Your Coinomi recovery phrase ( Your Coinomi recovery phrase can be found by tapping the tapping the icon of 3 vertical dots at the top right > Settings> Show recovery phrase )

  2. NAVCore for PC/MAC/Linux (These steps are done in Windows. https://navcoin.org/downloads/)

Steps to extract private keys

  1. Go to https://coinomi.com/recovery-phrase-tool.html.

  2. Input your BIP39 recovery phrase

  1. Select 18 from the 'Number of Words' drop-down list.

  2. Select NavCoin from the 'Coin' drop-down list.

  3. Scroll down to 'Derived Addresses' section. It will show all addresses, public keys and private keys in that wallet.

  4. Go to Go to https://chainz.cryptoid.info/nav/ and put in each address to check if the address has any coins on it. Do this for all the addresses available if you have accumulated NAVcoins gradually over the years. When the ones with NAVcoins are found, copy and paste the private keys into a notepad

Steps to import private keys to NAVCore.

  1. Open the NAVCore. Make note of the sync status at the bottom of the window and ensure that it is up to date. (If you are installing NAVCore for the first time, syncing will take up to 10 hrs. Please be patient. In the meantime, you can proceed to the next step.)

  2. Go to Help -> Debug Console and enter importprivkey < PRIVATE KEY >. The importing process can take several minutes.

  1. Do this for all the wallets with keys available.

  2. Wait for your NAV Wallet to sync with the blockchain. Once done, you will see your coins reflected in the wallet. You can proceed to send your coins to other wallets.

  3. Make sure you backup the wallet. Go to File -> Backup Wallet. Save the file in multiple locations. If you lose this file or your encryption passphrase you will lose access to your coins.

*Disclaimer: I do not lay claim for authoring these troubleshooting steps. This is just an elaborate troubleshooting steps based on my experience as a NAVcoin user.
