If you think that lighting never strucks at the same place twice then think again. There's a place in Venezuela where river Catatumbo meets lake Maricaibo and this is officialy the most lighting-struck place in a world. On average this area has 260 stormy days in a year while one square kilometer of area has 250 lighting strikes in same period of time. In the time of the storm this place has more than 1000 lighting strikes in only one hour. The peak of this crazy weather happens in October when you can see 28 strikes in a minute on average. Catatumbo lighting is producing so much light that it could be seen from over 400 km. Even the sailors are sometimes using this beautiful phenomenon for navigation.

Theories for this extreme activities are very different. While some web pages say that this phenomenon can't be understand completely, others say that this activity can be explained with enhaced concentration of methane from outfields in this area. First theory brought by scientists suggested that uranium deposits in bedrocks attracted the lightning but this theory was soon turned down. Neither one scientific theory has been officialy confirmed so this place still remains unexplained.

Here's one video of Catatumbo lighting from Youtube:
