RE: Birds can navigate by using the Earth’s magnetic field, and scientists have recently discovered a protein in the eye that is likely responsible for this ability
Nature is truly amazing. Birds navigating by magnetoreception. This sounds so cool.
If I find a way to create a mutated variant of the cryptochromes in my own eyes, will I pick up this ability too?
Yeah, it's pretty cool indeed!
Hmm, in theory I suppose you could transfer genes from birds and to yourself to get the ability, but it's not really possible with the technology we have today. We humans have cryptochromes ourselves, but ours is too different, and most likely do not have the magnetoreception variant of the protein.
Maybe in the future it could be possible. Or maybe something similar to the magnetoreceptive abilities.
