I am writing Nature Of Personality.
In brief, personality is characterised by the following chief features :
It has both physical and psychological components.
It is something unique and specific. Every one of us is a unique person in oneself and has a unique self. Every one of us has specific characteristics for making adjustments.
It includes all the behavioural patterns -cognitive, affective and conative.
It is an organisation of psychophysical systems or some behaviour characteristics and functions as a unified whole.
Although the personality of an individual remains stable to a large extent, it can not be said to be static; it is dynamic in the sense that some of its features may change due to internal or external situational demands. Thus, personality is adaptive to situations. It is in the process of change and modification. For example, the process of making adjustment to the demands of the situations is continuous. which makes the nature of personality dynamic.
Every personality is the product of heredity and environment.
Learning contributes to the growth and development of personality.
The personality of an individual can be described and measured.
Personality makes two individuals different from each other across a number of traits or behavioural characteristics.
To sum up, personality is a complex organisation of all the traits which enable the individuals to adapt to the demands and forces of the situations and direct them towards some Specific ends. Thus, it is the characteristic way of behaving across different situations and over a period of time which is stable and unique.
