Home to 4,605 orphan oil and gas wells, Louisiana seeks federal money to plug them

Louisiana is home to 4,605 orphan oil and gas wells, some of them threatening the environment, and now plans to ask the federal government for a Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act grant to help pay the estimated $401.7 million cost of plugging them.

Interesting article about the huge number of oil and gas wells throughout Louisiana that are not in operation and not maintained. I never understood how oil companies got to pump the oil out of the ground and then just leave their trash behind. To me this is pretty basic, clean up after yourself. Anyway, lets get this cleaned up before it does more damage to the environment and the animals that live in it.
