BAY DENESSE WELCOMES DUCKS FOR FALL!
This project reconnected the Mississippi River to its nearby wetlands, using a crevasse to convey fresh water and sediment to a nearby shallow bay. As layers of sediment deposited and vegetation began to take root, new land materialized.
Interesting short article and video about a restoration project in South Louisiana and the benefits that it is seeing already. There seems to be a common theme to restoration projects in the wetlands of Louisiana that work and that is the reconnecting of the Mississippi River to the marshes. The sediment and fresh water is what builds the land, no doubt about it. Hopefully the powers that be will see the success here and put in more and more crevasses. Take down the levees in a controlled and safe way!
