Schlumbergera in Bloom
I bought this Schlumbergera a couple of months ago and it has now flowered so I thought I'd post some shots of the blooms. According to Wikipedia, this genus of cacti is native to the coastal mountains of south-eastern Brazil where they grow on trees or rocks. Of course, there are now many different hybrids and cultivars available. They are sometimes known by their older name of Zygocactus. People also call it Christmas cactus even though here in the southern hemisphere they flower at the opposite time of year. Apparently, the Brazillians call it Flor de Maio (May flower) but, of course, this one is flowering in April. I'll just stick to calling it Schlumbergera .
