PIG FARMING
Pigs are domestic animal that is often referred to as hog or swine. pig rearing also involve in livestock production which are referred to as pork meat. Pigs possess a large head, long or short mouth, long snout, four hoofed toes which are present on each foot and a hair covering their body.
The following steps are to be considered in piggery and they include:
- Pig should be reared in an environment far from human settlement to prevent disturbance or odors before considering pig farming (piggery).
- Securing a quite convenient breeding ground where they can occasionally graze around.
- Building of pens to keep them healthy and free from contamination and diseases.
- Buying feed and securing a place in their pen for drinking of water. Unlike every other animal, pigs also needs a balance diet meal to get adequate result.
- Securing healthy breed by buying from a trusted source .
- Employing worker's depending on the number of pigs that you have in your farm, this workers will assist in the feeding, cleaning and looking after their well begin.
Pigs are easy to rear but it depends on the way you manage and handle it, it takes 5-6months for a pig to reach the consumption level (table size) and research as shown that 40% of the meat consumed is from pork. This not only leads to increase in pig farming but will also contribute to the demand of pork meat in future.
