What the heck kind of fruit is that?
I took my wife to Jamaica from her 31st birthday... mainly because I didn't do it big for her 30th. I started a new tradition of celebrating of going big on your 31st, screw the 30th. Haha!
Anyways, we decided to go a little off the beaten path while in Jamaica. One morning we ended up in someone's yard off a rural dirt road sharing some of their sugar cane, Jamaican apples, and a fruit we have never heard of... naseberry. The people we were with split open a naseberry and I took a bite of this juicy fruit. The wife and I looked at each other like "why the F haven't we ever heard of these?" Naseberry taste like a pear with brown sugar sprinkled on it...or even a sweet potato pie.
The rest is history. When we got back to Florida I ordered one of these trees from an exotic fruit grower in south Florida. We are looking forward to enjoying these fruits for years to come.
If you are ever in the produce section and come across naseberry ( also called sapodilla, chico , zapote, or dilly in various other countries) I would highly recommend you give it a try. Expand your fruit horizon!
P.S. The tree in the picture is our little tree. The one that was in Jamaica was massive! They are great ornamental trees that grow slow but grow large!
