Beekeeping in January
There is not much work to do with the bees in January. The bees are still tightly clustered together keeping warm awaiting spring. Its nice to get a little reprieve before the beekeeping season begins..
Its always a good idea to check the apiary to make sure the hives have not been knocked over by the wind or any animals.
The hive should already have been insulated and fed. If you are not a member of your local beekeepers association join up! Its a great place to learn and meet other beekeepers in your area to exchange local knowledge for foraging times and general support and of course exchange ideas.
Our meeting this week is on chemical free beekeeping so I am very excited about that. The bees are dying and we need to figure out why..
The longer days are now coming so brood production will begin soon. I look forward to sharing our beekeeping journey with you this year. Bees are fascinating creatures and its a fabulous hobby for anyone!
