The Landscape Slowly Filling Up With Color After The Rain
The last few years has been strenuous on the environment, but the one thing that I can say about Africa, is that it sure knows how to bounce back.
Over the past few weeks we have been getting a little bit of rain every now and then, and the results were immediate, and the transformation absolutely wonderful, as f the raindrops themselves consisted of paint that splashed color over the previously desolate land.
Since I have taken these photos a short while back there has been even more new growth, the ground is now covered in what seems to be jungle grass and the fruit trees and vegetable gardens is flourishing despite the fact that you now have to wade through foliage to get to it. Soon it will be time to dust off the slashers and hack away at the growth, but that will only happen once the new grass is well established.
For this post however I decided to focus a bit more on the tree canopies and how the contrast with their new attire against the bright blue backdrop that the skies offer, above you can see how the jacaranda trees started cloaking itself in a purple and green robe. Just enough so for you to still be able to imagine its barren branches.
Also the marula trees are starting to bear fruit, this is an uncultivated indigenous tree that produces a berry like fruit extremely high in vitamin C as well as a whole array of other nutrients and is often used in making maroela beer, a fermented beverage favored by the locals, and as you can see, it promises to be a good harvest year.
I often find that right after the rain, people start acting different, a little bit more patient, tolerant and peaceful, as if the rain managed to wash away a layer of animosity. Maybe it is just the cheerful color or the prospects of new growth that stimulates better behavior, or maybe it is just a matter of perception on my behalf.
But however you look at it - the rain sure is a blessing, and one that we tend to appreciate a lot more if we have gone without it for a while!
Oh, that’s amazingly beautiful! So glad to hear you finally got some rain. :)
