Itinerary Features
D1: Pick-up at Nyingchi Airport. Welcome to the snow-covered plateau. Lhasa is 3,650 meters above sea level, so do less exercise after checking in the hotel. Don’t take a bath or wash your hair on the first day, so as to adapt to the plateau climate as soon as possible.
D2: Midui Glacier, located in Yupu Town, Bomi County, 103km away from the county seat, 8km away from National Road 318, and only 2km from the nearest village, is most the important oceanic glacier in Tibet, and the lowest glacier in the world.
D3: The diet offered in Ranwu Lake Scenic Area is one of the six travel contents. The unique geographic location and climate characteristic decide the unique dietary habit of the Tibetans in the locality, and on the vast Tibetan Plateau, tsampa, buttered tea, sweet tea, cottage cheese, barley wine, and red meat are traditional Tibetan food.
D4: Lulang Forest is a mist-shrouded luxuriantly green mountain forest, in which there are neat grassy marshlands that look like being artificial pruned. Lots of dwellings are located in this heavenly forest surrounded by mountains and waters, with winding brooks flowing around. Tens of thousands of wild flowers compete with each other for beauty of looks here, making this place an earthly paradise.
D5: There are different sceneries, such as snow mountain, lake, forest, waterfall, pasture, cultural relics and historic sites, tourist interest and ancient temple, in Basumtso Scenic Area, which show different looks at the different seasons. Various wild rare plants gather here, making this place a beautiful paradise on earth. It is honored as “Switzerland in miniature”.
D6: The Potala Palace was built during the reign of Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. After being reconstructed by Dalai Lama V in the 17th century, it became the dwelling place of Dalai Lama and the center of theocracy. The major structure consists of white palace and red palace. The main building has 13 floors and stands 115.7 meters, consisting of resting places, Buddhist halls, pagoda halls, and monk dorms.
D7: In the west of Yangpachen Basin is Yangpachen Monastery, whose Tibetan full name is “Thonden Yangpachen”, referring to “a vast solemn city of Buddhism”. Yangpachen Monastery is the main temple of Karma Kagyu Red Mitre, a sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
D8: It is said that devout Buddhists walk around the lake every year. It will take about one month if one moves around the lake by horse. This is equivalent to going on a pilgrimage to Lhasa. By doing so, they may “get a blessing from the Buddha” at least in the current year.
D9: Mount Everest is the main peak of the Himalayas, located on the border between China and Nepal. Its north slope is within the boundaries of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China, south slope is in the territory of Nepal, and summit is situated within China. In Tibetan, the name of “Everest” means “goddess and third”.
D10: Physical training for Everest climbing: If you are rich, in good health, and not attacked by asthma, heart disease or hypertension, you can make preparations for Everest climbing in the next step.
D11: In Shigatse City are ice-covered snow mountains represented by Mount Everest, primeval forest belts, sacred mountains, holy lakes, grasslands, famous temples and ancient monasteries. If you depart from Lhasa and go upstream along the Yarlung Zangbo River, you’ll see Yamdrok Lake, one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. You will also see the Site of Resistance to British Aggression at Zongshan in Shigatse; finally, you will see the “world’s highest peak” Mount Everest on the southern border of Shigatse.
D12: After breakfast in Lhasa, we will drive you to the airport (no charge), and you will finish your happy journey in the mysterious land of snow. Kindly reminder: please check your suitcase again before departure.
