I've been told they are called coastal by locals.

Columbian black-tailed deer generally found west of the Cascades. It was on the endangered species list for many years.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officially down-listed them from an endangered to threatened species in 2003.

They are small deer not big like white tail or mule deer.
