The superiority of the experts in details are not new, nor the way of expression full of specialized terms, nor their contempt for freer and more relaxed expression, with artistic overtones. You may feel that you see them deep and trapped in their subject - like a blind rooster, they vehemently defend their small landfill without opening to the world. With such an approach, of course, the rupture and the rift between science and the great masses of people deepens, an extremely dangerous phenomenon for the whole civilization. Without a light expression and without including aspects that would give authenticity, who would go through the text? Looking at the work as a whole, you somehow have a kind of admiration for the times when such a work could be created and published… and when it could be bought and read by a large number of people from intellectual elites and high circles in society.

Leaving Germany at the age of 18… on an African expedition and returning after five years… was the kind of approach. It wasn't easy at all. His travels in Africa, where he collected specimens for museums and zoos, led to a good knowledge of the species, from eagles to ibex, from monkeys to monitor lizards. Of course, such expeditions meant many sacrifices, in terms of great physical effort, then borrowed money and existence at the edge of the abyss, various tropical diseases - knowledge does not come for free. After five years of experience in Africa, he became a student at the University of Jena and Vienna, became a member of the German Academy of Natural Sciences, published numerous works in the field of zoology, ornithology, books on expeditions and addressed ethnographic issues. Through his work, Brehm came to plant and nurture in the souls of millions of people some curiosity about the animal world, about the behavior of various creatures about which we still know so little.
