Gibba Turtle ( Acquaintance)
My recent visit to Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum in Singapore was both recreational as well as educational. Among so many species of turtle and tortoise that I saw in the Museum, I would like to share about Gibba Turtle , its scientific name is Phrynops Gibbus.
The origins of Gibba turtles found in the museum are from North America and South America. The most distinctive feature of this species is its red skin on its head and limbs. I learned that the Indians called this species the "red turtle".
The interesting facts about this Gibba turtle is its nocturnal nature, however it found to feed on daytime as well. This turtle is also said to be more active at night than during the day, and like to sit on basking area at night.
This turtle is also known to be shy and docile. It displays its playfullness when surrounded by own species and can often be seen chasing one another in a game of "catching". And they seems to get along well in small groups and tend to hang together!
