This is how NASA wants to bring back its Mars rock samples

New Ideas
What remained were plans for two new approaches. One of them would use proven landing methods already used by the last rovers. Instead of parachutes landing on the Martian surface, the cargo would be lowered the last few meters from a platform suspended by jet engines. While this sounds complex, it has since proven reliable. A second proposal intends to use new methods from commercial providers for this task.

The vehicle for collecting the samples would be smaller than previously planned. Instead of solar panels, a battery containing radioactive material would be used. A battery of this type also powers Perseverance itself. Recently, the transfer of up to 30 samples into the spacecraft that will carry them into orbit has also been simplified. There, a spacecraft from the European Space Agency (ESA) would then pick them up and bring them back to Earth. ESA is currently reviewing the new NASA proposals.
