RE: Striped Bass (Marone saxatilis) Mount!
Can someone please tell me, if the freshwater hybrid striped bass = this bass?
- I remember reading about catching them down on Beaver Lake in Arkansas.
- The MO Conservation Dept. has stocked Lake Paho (I drive by this lake twice a day between home and work...) with them.
- I hear of a few catching them.
Usually 5-10 pounders...

- or is this fish one half of the hybrid I'm thinking of...???
Yes they are, they are a mix of Marone saxitilis (this one, striped bass) and Marone chrysops (white bass) I believe they call them whiterock bass. I don't think M. saxitilis can live and breed in only freshwater, I'm pretty sure thats why they needed to hybridize them. While I don't know how big the hybrid can get, I do know that a pure M. saxitilis in the wild can reach 50lbs/50inches.
