30DAYS Music Challenge day 26: With Arms Wide Open, CreedsteemCreated with Sketch.

I got to know Creed trough a colleque, he mentioned the album Human Clay. It was the second album of Creed and it was the album which brought them succes all over the world. It was an mix of rough metal with great melody and guitarplay of Mark Tremonti (later formed the bands Alterbridge and Tremonti). It was also one of the first band who played rock and my wife and I both liked :). We can both sing the whole album Human Clay. At the time I was really into Creed the band was only touring in the States, they had a great target audience overthere so they did'nt had to tour outside the US for that time. ( a bit like Elvis). I thought it was a pitty cause I'd really wanted to see them live.

One of the songs that has a real special place in my musical mind is "With Arms wide open". although it is a ballad of which many people say it is to slick, I really think it is a great song with a true dynamic climax... The lyrics are great, and there is this piece within the lyrics which is pure poetry.

Well I don't know if I'm ready
To be the man I have to be
I'll take a breath, I'll take her by my side
We stand in awe, we've created life

After the greatest hits album and DVD I lost sight of them. A long time later I read that Scott Stapp (Creed's leadsinger) suffered from drugs and alchohol abuse from which his mental illness got intensed... He was really suffering a lot and was delusional. He thought he was followed by secret services and stuff to kill him. A quite heavy story, only later he was diagnosed bipolar. What I do admire is that his wife stood with him all the way and she was the one that got him into a facility where the treated him for his mental illness. He'd fallen deep and did go a long way for recovery, but luckily he managed, totally supported (still) by his wife...

The great thing of me posting all this music on Steemit is that I am reliving all those great songs again... That's a great side-effect of writing about music...As for now, I have listend all evening various Creed songs in various versions... And did they rock....
One of the first video's I saw of Creed was the song "Higher", this clip was show on the top of a building and it was a great show with all fireworks, crazy crowd the whole deal.

In Holland we had a band called "Kane" , a lot of people thought the singer of Kane (Dinand Woesthoff) had listened a bit to much to the frontman of Creed, cause he had a similar way of singing :) I can understand the comparision, although the first album of Kane was also a very good album, after that they went (for me) down the drain cause of wrong musical decisions.. But for your info I will post a video so you can hear why people think he sounds like Scott Stapp ;).

I have seen Kane lot of times during their tour for the first album. The band sounded great live and their songs rocked. Their album "As long as you want this" we have worn out, this band was also a band my wife and life a lot together, again a mutual passion :).

Damn those eyes was a big hit in the Netherland

Have a great day !!!

Lol Creed! Take me back! Haha. Loved the first album didnt delve much past that though. My friends used to hate on me for listening to them for some reason 😣😣

Indeed there was no way in the middle, people loved them or hated them.. I do think it was a great band with, for that time, a new way of music...mainstream combined with great riffs :) And the voice of Scott fitted perfectly....

Yeah I loved them! Probably time for another listen to My Own Prison.

I remember reading about Scott Stapp falling on hard times. Last I read he was homeless:
