Less activity, I'm sorry - Croatia and Reggae
Hi Steemians,
just a short post about what is going on in our live, especially in the musical aspects, and why we're not posting that much the last time.
Reggae-project
Together with two friends of mine we started to jam around and decided to start a little reggae project. Right now we are drums, one guitar and a bass. The next time a friend will join us with a trumpet... let's see how it works. Playing reggae is new for all of us, yes we listened to it but playing is another thing. So for the beginning we focused on reggae-cover of more or less famous songs so we can get a feeling for it before going on with own songs. Benefit is also that when we will play it at the campfire anybody can sing with us because everybody knows the lyrics. So as an example for our songs so far, we're playing a reggae-version of Beds are Burning or a cover of Pumped up Kicks like this one:
I also tried to write some lyrics in case we go over to own reggae-songs. You know this is just a little project so maybe we will stay with covers. You're the first to read this:
Always sitting on this chair, always staring at this screen.
Outside the sun smiles at me, the blue sky screams my name.
But I'm bussy writing emails, what the fuck is wrong with me.
Never happy, never enough, always restless, never pleased
From sleep to work to smartphone, to TV, back to sleep.
Melodica
Diving deeper into reggae I was not that satisfied with only playing drums so I bought myself a little melodica. If you don't know that little instrument: it's like a little piano but just makes the sounds if you blow in it. Most people only know it as a toy for children but it's also a funny thing to play reggae melodies. So as a drummer I started to refresh my knowledge about notes and especially how to read piano notes and how to play accords. Long story short: cheap and funny instrument to refresh the basic music knowledge I learned years before in school and from my (piano playing) mother. Here an example of a catchy melody played with a melodica by another youtuber:
After learning more melodies and accords I'll try to play it in our reggae-project. You can find a melodica for example in the song Alcoholic from Tropidelic as background melody.
Croatia
Today we will travel to Croatia with our carnival-brass-band to make a common holiday for 8 days. But we'll also play every day at the Zaton-resort (were we are staying) as entertainment-act in the evening. If you're there, speak to th drummer and ask for a beer ;) Will be a funny time but we can't write a post during that period and also not upvote our friends post - sorry! But we'll come back in one week :)
See you then!
@twolittlebirds
cool! good luck!happy for you
Thank you man :)
That’s quite interesting! Playing your own music. The lyrics which you have written are touching the hard core reality.
Thank you for the information about melodica. If you had not shown the video I would have always thought it as a toy. Lol
Good luck for your own band and playing music!
Thank you for the kind words Shilpa :)
Welcome to Croatia :)
haha thank you, we had a great time!
