A tour through my collection #11

in #music6 years ago

In this series of articles I will randomly pick a cd or DVD out of my collection and write a little story about it. My collection has been in storage for some time but I love to go through it now that it is on display once again. The collection holds about 300+ cd’s and the same amount of DVD’s.

For today I picked a cd: Come Find Yourself by Fun Lovin’ Criminals

Artist info:
Fun Lovin' Criminals are a band from New York City. Their musical style is eclectic, covering styles such as hip hop, rock, blues, jazz, R&B, punk, and funk. They are best known for their hit "Scooby Snacks", which features samples from films by Quentin Tarantino, and the song "Love Unlimited", which recalls Barry White's backing vocal group. Their songs often focus on life in New York City, as well as urban life in general. Their lyrics can be gritty or existentialist in nature, touching on topics such as organized crime and urban violence, but they are just as often humorous or satirical. The band gained a large following internationally, notably in north-west Europe, around the release of their first two albums in the late 1990s. (source Wikipedia)

My story with this album:
As I was a huge Quintin Tarantino fan at the moment this album was released and their first single release for us here in the Netherlands was “Scooby Snacks”, with the conversation parts from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, I was hooked on these New York guys from day one.
I have all their studio albums in my collection as well as two of their compilation cd’s and they made it to quite some of my Spotify playlists. What I love is the musical combinations these guys put in their music as well as the corny funny lyrics in most of their songs.
I have been blessed to have seen them perform live twice in my life here in the Netherlands, with a side note that the first time Heuy didn’t quite made it to the stage due to the Dutch laws on Cannabis in combination with some drinking.
I still listen to this album on a regular base these days with my all-time favourite FLC songs on this album “Scooby Snacks” and “The King of New York”. If you don’t know this album go find it somewhere on your go to streaming service and give it a try, if you liked it let me know.

Hope you like this little post and idea of the series. If so follow me @tijntje.
