Wednesday House: The House Sound of 1990

in #music6 years ago (edited)

At the tail end of the 80s very uplifting so-called 'hands-in-the-air' tracks started to become more popular and featured heavily in a lot of British DJs sets. People like Sasha, who I'm sure most people know, started to play these Italian uplifting anthems to clubbers in the North of England around 1990, after the government had started to crack down on the big rave scene and pushed people back into the clubs. These Italian produced records would be mixed with some of the more techno sounding tunes coming out of places like Sheffield and Manchester and this mixture would go on to be fused into the hardcore rave sound that would emerge in the coming years. But for now it would all still be called house.

Here is a small mixed selection of some of these tracks that would make up the sound from 1990.

Indie - Apollonia (1990)

Sweet Exorcist - Testone (1990)

Last Rhythm - Last Rhythm (1990)

Psychotropic - Only For The Headstrong (Out Of Your Head Mix) (1990)

The Neutral Zone - Outer Space (Moodily Introed Then Jazzily Bleeped Mix) (1990)
