This Day in Rock and Metal History - 28th of December (Rest In Peace Lemmy)

in #music8 years ago (edited)

On December 28, 2015, Lemmy Kilmister passed away after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Ian Kilmister, who was famous by "Lemmy" Kilmister, was the bassist, vocalist and songwriter of Motorhead, which was a heavy metal band that he formed in 1975.

Motorhead is considered one of the early bands to catalyze the evolution of rock into heavy metal music as we know it today. Many consider Lemmy as the godfather of the NWoBHM that gave birth to heavy metal in the late 70s and 80s of the past century. Despite this, Lemmy often described his music as "rock 'n roll".

Lemmy was unique in using distorted bass instead of rhythm guitar throughout all the songs he recorded with Motorhead. While most other heavy metal bands used distortion pedals with their electric guitars for playing the rhythm, Lemmy added distortion to his bass guitar which gave Motorhead a distinctive sound.

To many metalheads, Lemmy is considered one of the "Gods" of heavy metal music, if there were any and his death is a big loss to the heavy metal scene.

Ace of Spades is one of Motorhead's coolest tracks; enjoy listening

Wow! One year already. Feels like it was just last month.

That's the same feeling I got when I checked the calendar earlier today. No one was like him and no one will ever be :(

Lemmy is definitely missed. One of the all-time greats!
