Filmage: The Story Of Descendants/All

in #music8 years ago

If you happen to be into music documentaries like I am, I think you'll enjoy this.

"Filmage" tells the story of the Descendants, a pop-punk band formed in 1977. Following the drummer, Bill Stevenson, through multiple line-up changes and setbacks, it's a fascinating story of perseverance. I found Bill's attitude to be so inspiring.

Dave Grohl says something to the effect that if these guys had made these records in 1999 they'd be millionaires, and it's interesting, because their sound really is like a slightly less polished, more angsty pop punk. Really beautiful melodies, catchy songs, solid musicianship, vocal harmonies - they have it all.

The film features interviews with many of their contemporaries, including Mark Hoppus (Blink-182), Mike Watt (Minutemen), Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion), Fat Mike (NOFX), Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks/OFF!) and many more. It's a great story and a reminder to "go for greatness"!

Anyways, I don't want to spoil anything for you - hope you enjoy!
