REVIEW: "The Fall of a Rebel Angel" by Enigma

Enigma Fall of a Rebel Angel

Seeing as Enigma hasn't had a hit since the 90's, it can be easy to forget the act exists, but creator Michael Cretu has been chugging along this whole time, just now releasing his 8th album under the name. It doesn't really tread any new ground, with the familiar blend of chilled beats, inoffensive electronica, and new agey vibe. Despite the lack of any innovation however, it's hard not to enjoy it. Some songs are a little less memorable than others, but the overall album is cohesive and entertaining, and when the classical and religious influences rise to prominence in the 2nd half, it does manage to approach the magic of the first 2 Enigma albums. With 90's nostalgia in full swing, this couldn't have come out at a better time, and is likely to please even casual fans. ★★★ (out of 5)
