Why is it so hard to find good music that doesn't have adult references

in #music6 years ago

Yes, there are plenty of good music out there. And, yes, there are a lot of songs that are technically clean. The struggle I'm having is finding songs that DON'T talk about sex, drinking, smoking, partying, etc. Oh, and that AREN'T about Jesus.

To offer a little background. I am the committee chair for my kid's cub scout pack. I'm also an IT guy, and love technology. For my kid's first crossover ceremony (where the kids cross over into the next rank) I made a picture movie of all the things the kids had done over the past year. I used the song Home by Blue October. It was a huge hit with the families of our pack, so now I do one every year.

I can't tell you how hard it is to find a clean song I can use for these videos. Not all of our families are Christians, so Christians music is out. I review hundreds of songs every year and it is always a struggle. Inevitably, there are references to smoking, drinking/partying, sex, or some such. Or there are curse words in the song... these videos are for kids and their family-centric parents. So I try to use current, upbeat songs that have a message relevant to scouting.

So far, here are the ones I've used:

Home by Blue October
Happy by Farrel
Can't Fight The Feeling by Justin Timberlake
I Wouldn't Be by Kodaline

If anyone out there in steemland has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
