What You Need to Start Listening to Vinyl
1. Records
The first thing that you need to start listening to vinyl records, are the records themselves. You want to buy some vinyl to listen to first so that when you get your turntable and sound system setup, you already have something to play on it and you can take your time looking through records until you find one you really want and then spend the money on everything else you need, because who knows maybe you' ll get frustrated with crate digging and decide that you prefer the convenience of your Spotify playlist. 2. A Turntable
Now that you have a good record to listen to you need to buy a record player for your first record player I recommend the Audio Technica AT-LP60, it's a very popular turntable especially for beginners and I personally use it, it has a built in phono pre-amp, is relatively cheap (~$100 USD), and there is a blue tooth version that you can use to record your records digitally. It also has some downsides however, for instance it dose not have an adjustable counterweight, and it only plays at two speeds, 33 rpm and 45 rpm. For those of you who don't know there are three record speeds that you will normally encounter 33 rpm, 45 rpm, and 78 rpm. The 33 pm records are your standard 12 inch LP's. 45 rpm records are your 7 inch singles this is why most people refer to them as 45's. And the 78 rpm records are 10 inch EP' s. So in short if you get a turn table without a 78 rpm setting you can't play EP' s. Just do some research read some reviews and look on amazon until you see something that fits your needs.
3. A Phono pre-amp
The third thing that you need is a phono pre-amp if your turntable has one built in then you don't need one but it is a very important part of a setup if you want your music to be loud enough to hear. Basically without getting to deep into it a phono pre-amp takes the quite vibrations from the needle and adds the needed power to the signal to amplify it before it goes into and out of your amp, or speaker. You can buy these online and I don't think that they are very expensive, the main thing to look at is how many volts it can handle, the more volts it can handle the louder it can make your records.
4. Speakers
The fourth thing that your need is a good speaker or set of speakers. This is pretty self explanatory, and simple unless you are using an older turntable that only has a phono output, then you either need to get old speakers with a phono input or use new speakers with a phono to aux adapter.
That's All Folks
That's all you need for a basic setup to play your records, if you want to spend a lot more money you might want to upgrade later buy adding a tube amp, or a sub-woofer, but for the price this is all you need and the music will sound fine without all that stuff.
