DAMN. Kendrick Lamar

in #music7 years ago (edited)

Kendrick has done it again. Another awesome album put out by him, maybe not his best work but still very well put together. I personally can’t stop listening even though it is eight months old. If you have not listened to this album yet you are truly missing out on a great one.

BLOOD. starts the album, I’m not sure if it’s an intro though but it is only 1:56 long. It talks about his experience with an blind lady that he stumbles upon on the street. He aproches her and asks if she had lost something as she had been pacing up and down the street. She replied, “Oh yes, you have lost something. You’ve lost your life.” The message of this song is not too clear wether it’s that Kendrick has been too caught up in the rap game to focus on his life or that he has gone crazy. Overall I can’t really give it a rate because of the lack of content.

DNA. is a song that I heard plenty of times on the radio but I still wouldn’t call it a radio type song. The beat and bars are very upbeat and fast. It is about all of the things that make up Kendrick’s dna, and what he was born to do. Still eight months old and overplayed on the radio, DNA. is still one of my favorites. Overall rating 8/10

YAH. is probably one of my favorites, it tells the listener that Kendrick has a different way of looking at life and all things in general and that since he was born where his views on cirtan subjects are different than others. He talks about how Fox News used his name for percentage and that his niece sees him on Fox for the wrong reasons. The tone and the beat of the song seem very repetitive but the message is very well thought out. Overall rating 7/10

ELEMENT. is upbeat yet slow at the same time, Kendrick brings you down inside his mind and how he would do anything for the rap game. He even goes as far to say that, “I’m willin’ to die for this shit.” This truely shows how devoted and in love with rap he is. And with the hook being, “I don’t give a f*ck.” You can tell that Kendrick is a real badass. Overall rating is 9/10

FEEL. this is not really one of the songs I listened to a lot but it still is touching in its words. It tells the listener that he is going through a very tough time in his life where he feels like he can’t concentrate and he is actually going crazy. Each line that he says gets deeper and darker as the song goes on. This song is not good if you’re looking for a upbeat and happy song. Overall rating is 6/10.

LOYALTY. FT RIHANNA. this is another overplayed radio song, he made this song for the fans of his that only listen to his popular songs. It’s a good song but I’ve just heard it too many times and it starts to get annoying when it’s the only song you hear. The song is supposed to represent what loyalty is and how you should act to appear loyal to someone. Some parts of the song are upbeat and faster and other parts are slow. Overall rating is 7/10

PRIDE. is a song that has a really hard message to follow. At first I thought it was about love, then rap and how he would do a lot for it, then a sort of utopia type world where everything is perfect and how that wouldn’t be great. I’m not sure what this song is about but it is still very catchy and it is one of my favorites off of the album. Overall rating is 6/10

HUMBLE. the song that went viral, the song that made media crazy and made DAMN. what it is today. It was played too many times but I can see why. It’s fast and upbeat, catchy but unpredictable. The song itself other than why it was played so many times is about how Kendrick started from nothing and came up to the top and now runs the game. How he used to eat syrup sandwiches and now he has money counters that count up his millions of dollars. This song is actually very inspirational and one of the best tracks on the album. Overall rating is 9/10

LUST. is very repetitive but lacks an obvious message. It’s title is called lust yet I can’t really find anything actually about lust in the song besides the hook there was not a lot. Overall rating is 5/10

LOVE. FT. ZACARI. is a love song. The title basically screams love song. ZACARI does a very good job of describing the feeling of love and so does Kendrick. Kdot also really focuses on the feeling of never wanting to levave the love and that he would do anything for his lover. If you’re deeply in love and need a song to listen to, this is your song. Overall rating is 9/10

XXX. FT. U2. the song starts out slow and weird, most people may skip it just from the beginning but the song eventually picks up. As the intro fades out Kendrick starts to tell a fast story about how his friends son was killed over drugs. Kendrick goes into detail about if anyone were to touch anyone in his family they would be hunted and killed. This truly shows that Kendrick is sweet and salty at the heart and he loves his family and would do anything for them. Overall rating is 8/10

FEAR. is about how young Kendrick used to think that he was fearless and could do anything. He thought he could get away with anything until he gets home. His mother is the one thing he fears the most. From the song you can hear that Kendrick is not supposed to be living at her house and that the county is trying to take her food stamps away. This song is deep and emotional and not upbeat and happy. Overall rating is 9/10

GOD. is a track about how he feels like a god and that he is one of the greatest to ever do it. He goes into much more detail in the song but he says that he flexes all of his expensive things and lives the fact that he came from the bottom to the top. Overall rating is 7/10

DUCKWORTH. the last song on DAMN. is about a man named Anthony, he was the oldest of seven. His mom was a drug addict. He started hustling in the streets for a small amount to cash, but soon turned to $10,000 everyday. Anthony was accused of murder, he won the case and went back to drug dealing. Cops came looking for Anthony and he told them off and went to KFC. He met a kid named Ducky he grew up in the projects as well. Anthony started to plan a robery and Ducky was aware of the fact. Duck thought he’d get on Anthony’s good side by giving him extra food. The strategy worked and Ducky didn’t get killed in the armed robbery. Kendrick then goes to talk about what would happen if Anthony did kill Ducky, he says “Top Dawg would be servin’ life when I grew up with out a father and die in a gun fight.” This is by far the best massage and the best song on the album. Overall rating is 10/10
