Little introduction to russian music. It's not a list of the best or the most famous russian songs. It's just a subjective list of songs which you should know if you are interested in russian rock music.

Mashina Vremeni - Povorot (Turn)

Mashina Vremeni (Time Machine) was founded in 1969 in Moscow. They were a pioneers of rock music in Soviet Union and they are still active. Andrei Makarevich - the founder, singer and songwriter is the only remaining original member. In 1981 song "Povorot" stayed on the top of charts for 18 months.

Kino - Gruppa krovi (Blood type)
City: Leningrad
Year: 1988
Kino was a band headed by Viktor Tsoi formed in Saint Petersburg (Leningrad) in 1982. Viktor Tsoi wrote the music and lyrics for almost all of the band's songs. Album "Gruppa krovi" released in 1988 was a milestone in Kino's history and brought the group to pinnacle of popularity.

DDT - Shto takoye osen (What is autumn?)

Year: 1992
DDT was founded by singer Yuri Shevchuk (Юрий Шевчук) in 1980. Song "Что такое осень" reached number 2 on Nashe Radio's list of "Top 100 the best russian rock songs of the 20th century".

Chizh & Co - Vechnaya molodost' (Eternal youth)

Year: 1994
Band was formed in early 90's by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Sergei Chigrakov (Сергеем Чиграков) nickname "Chizh". Vechnaya molodost' is one of the most popular song of them.

Kipelov - Ya Svoboden (I am free)

Year: 1997 (video from 2003)
Kipelov is a band formed and led by Valery Kipelov - former Aria (Ария) vocalist. Aria is even more famous than Kipelov but song "Я свободен" is my favorite one.
