"Little Wing" by JIMI HENDRIX. An example of Chord Embellishment

Hendrix was not only a pioneer of rock but also a revolutionary of the music industry in the 60s, with powerful sounds and guitar effects never seen before, with a new way of playing the electric guitar that made people, after watching him live , often repeated this phrase, "HENDRIX IS FROM ANOTHER PLANET". Among those who declared this astonished was CARLOS SANTANA.

Fast solos with "blues" influence, palmmuted, hammer ons and pull ofs played with aggressiveness, amounts of distortion never seen before, introduction of effects like "wah wah", teeth playing and even set a guitar on fire (literally , as in Monterrey in 1967) made Hendrix revolutionize rock and popular music becoming today influence for many different musical styles and a key element in the evolution of music, inclusive, today guitarists who do not especially like Hendrix's music or those who just do not know that he existed, are influenced in some way by the "Voodoo Child" of Seattle.

But Hendrix not only laid the foundations for the emergence of a truly heavy rock, he also composed beautiful ballads (The wind cries Mary, Little Wing) and introduced new techniques in this area as the "Chord Embellishment"

In today's video I show you my interpretation of Little Wing, which Hendrix composed using this technique. The Chord Embellishment, is literally that. Each chord of the harmony that is played is embellished with a simultaneous response of phrasing, pull of, slides, scales and arpeggios. Two guitarists who have evolved this technique are Stevie Ray V. and John Mayer.
