Kip Macklejar and his newest single Alligator Swamp Monster is a lesson in why old-meets-new will tug at your earbuds every time

Kip Macklejar and his newest single release, Alligator Swamp Monster is a lesson in why old-meets-new will tug at your earbuds every time. Besides being a well-crafted, tongue-and-cheek rock song, Macklejar’s March 13th release imparts shades of yesteryear with hints of post Y2K stylings. This track has reptilian qualities and will quickly slither its way into our hearts and playlists.

The Danish singer-songwriter bases Alligator Swamp Monster in the slinkiest of grooves, enough to excite dance fans and G. Love fans alike. The rhythm section is infectious and tones are reminiscent of The Black Keys and Jack White drum mixes, even as far-reaching as Charlie Watts at times. Toy-like, honky-tonk, upright piano stabs throughout, keep Alligator Swamp Monster rooted in barroom Americana.

The magic here comes quickly, it has to, the track is only 2:44 of bluesy, greasy, hip-hoppy, special sauce. Fuzzy bass guitar and gritty slide parts give this single a genuine live-band feel, that’s always a plus in today’s deluge of overly compressed studio instrumentation; let this one ride, Macklejar cries!

Toy-like, honky-tonk, upright piano stabs throughout, keep Alligator Swamp Monster rooted in barroom Americana.

Alligator Swamp Monster is simplistic, yet broad-ranged tonally-speaking, a real feat when trying to serve all of those tasty morsels in one lovin’ spoonful. Kip Macklejar is a competent story-teller too, and vocalist. He’s humorous, a bit raspy and upper midrange in tone. His delivery and lyrical meanderings? A little Buick 6, a little Jumpin’ Jack Flash – you decide.

However you categorize it, its freshness is in the laziness of the timing, attention to classic rock and blues tonality, and general “sod off” rock n roll attitude. I’ll have an IPA with my Alligator Swamp Monster Bites!
