2018 Metal Album Review, But in 2019??? - "The Sin and Doom, Vol. II" by Impending Doom

in #music6 years ago

This was a review I've been very much looking forward to, as I have been a huge fan of Impending Doom since I was around 19 years old. When I first heard "The Serpent Servant", their second full-length release, I was immediately hooked. Their brand of death metal was something that, for me, really turned out to be a gamechanger. They tend to sustain the same level of heavy aggression found in most modern death metal, but the real kicker about them? They're a Christian death metal band.... who would've thought????

And the best part is that their faith does not, by any means, put a damper in any way on the severity of their songwriting. They have really solidified their spot among the plethora of some of the most severe (and not to mention influential) death metal bands of the modern age. Which brings us to their most recent release, "The Sin and Doom, Vol. II".

With each passing release from Impending Doom, there seems to be an ever-inevitable progression within their skill set as musicians and a band as a whole. In other words, they as a band seem only to get better with each release. and that effect is certainly not lost on me! From the classic downtuning synonymous with death metal, to the modern techy style of drumming heard among some of the finest names in the genre, among other genres like djent (thanks Meshuggah!), Impending Doom have become a staple in the modern death metal movement. And now, for your listening pleasure, a few of my favorite tracks from "The Sin and Doom, Vol. II"....
