Pluteus petasatus

We all know about the "Deer Shield" mushrooms that grow out of wood (living or dead)

Well that one is called Pluteus cervinus.

This morning, I stumbled upon the lighter colored Pluteus petasatus.

It was found in a spot where there is buried wood from previous landscaped bushes.

Normally Ganoderma curtisii is DOMINATING this buried wood so I was surprised to see this opportunistic Pluteus.

All Pluteus are wood-lovers, have pink spores, and display archetypal "free" gill attachement.
