PROCRASTINATION (THE THIEF OF TIME)
Procrastination is the act of postponing what you are supposed to do. We all have been in that situation where we have to delay what we are supposed to do that same day, that same week, that same month or that same year. Procrastination they say is the thief of time. If you can carry out a task that minute, why postpone it, if you can do that activity that hour, why postpone it. People who procrastinate, never progress and if they do, it is usually very slow. Successful people in the world today are people who do not procrastinate because they are aware of the ill-effect. . People who want to succeed must shun procrastination. The beautiful thing is that it can be vanquished. Below are some ways you can overcome procrastination.
- WRITE YOUR TASK FOR THE DAY- Writing out your task make you keep tabs on your activity for the day. You can write it out on your note pad and tick when they are achieved. My sister does this and most times, she achieves her task for the day. Writing out your tasks makes it very difficult to procrastinate and it makes you remember what you are supposed to do.
- DEFINE YOUR GOALS- There are things we all want to achieve in life, when you define your goals, you will not like to procrastinate them. You can write it out somewhere you can see it every day. I know of a colleague who wrote his goals on his mirror and anytime he wakes up in the morning, he looks at it and though according to him, it is not visible at that moment but every day when he wakes up, mere looking at it, gives him the needed strength.
- REWARD YOURSELF- I am sure your thoughts will be, how can I reward myself, but it is possible, you can place a reward for yourself. You can tell yourself that if I do this thing, I will get myself this, If I achieve this, I will give myself a treat. In defining your goals, you can place the rewards by the side and make sure you do them, it pushes procrastination aside because you look forward to getting the rewards.
- START FROM SOMEWHERE- There are some tasks and projects that once you look at them, they seem unachievable, they look like a mountain you cannot push away, you keep on telling yourself, I will start tomorrow, I will start next week and so on. But you have to start from somewhere, do not look at how distant the finishing line but decide to start the race.
- BE DEVOTED-Stay devoted to your dreams and goals. Be willing to give your time and energy, with time, you will discover that procrastination have been subdued.
IN CONCLUSION
Procrastination is like having lots of money and spending it on irrelevancies without investing and when it is exhausted, you are back to square one.
