For this challenge I chose the famous story “Othello” written by William Shakespeare. I watch the movie first and then read the book because luckily I already had this book at the home. After reading it I find out that the movie and book have the same story just a little difference in how they are told.

Book or Movie Which Do I Prefer?

In my opinion some ideas are better when written in a book and some look beter in a movie. Books explain things more deeply. we get to know what the character are thinking and feeling But sometime it take time and full focus to read book.

Movies are easier to watch and we can see the emotions on the actors face Also the background music and acting help us feel the story more. So I think both are good. But I personally prefer watching movies because they are faster and more emotional and sometimes it’s hard for me to understand deep English use in old book like Othello.

About the Movie "Othello":

The versions I watch were the 1995 films Othello staring Laurence Fishburne as Othello and Kenneth Branagh Iago. The move is in old English but the acting help me understanding what was going on It show how one man lies can destroy lives.

Othello is strong soldier. He is brave and respected but is not from the same race as other. He secretly marries a beautiful and kind girl Desdemona. But Othello close officer Iago gets jealous and wants to ruin his life. So he tells lies to Othello and make him think that Desdemona is cheating on him.

At first Othello does not believe it but slowly he starts doubting her. He become so angry and heartbroken that he kills her. Later he finds out that she was innocent and the lie were all from Iago. Full of pain and guilt Othello ends his own life.

What I Liked in the Movie:

The part that really touch my heart was when Othello understood the truth but it was too late. The way he held Desdemona body and the sadness on his face made me emotional. You could feel his pain without even needing word.

Also the actor who play Iago was very clever. He acted so well that you start feeling angry at him. He look friendly in front of Othello but was destroying his life behind his back.

Movie vs Book What Better?

After watching the movie and reading the book I can say both have their own strength.

What was better in the movieWhat was better in the book
Acting helped me understand emotions easily. The words were deep and full of meaning.
I could feel the sadness and drama more.We get to know what Othello was thinking inside.
The story was clear and fast.It gives more time to understand the characters.

So the movie gave me the emotions and the book gave me understanding. I am happy I watched the movie first or else I would have been confusing by the language in the book.

If I Wrote That Scene in a Book:

"Othello sat beside her his hands shaking and heart broken. Her eyes were closed forever and he knew he could never bring her back. ‘Desdemona…’ he said but there was no answer. His tears fell on her face. The truth came late. He loved her but his trust was weak and now he was alone in his mistake."
