In realms of legend, where myth and magic roam,
The Arthurian tales have captivated hearts of old and home,
A testament to time, their timeless charm does stand,
Inspiring art and music, across this wondrous land.

A sword in stone, a prophecy to claim,
A king to rise, with Excalibur's mighty name,
But Disney's take, a 1963 animated delight,
Fell short of expectations, in the morning light.

Based on White's novel, a seminal work of might,
The Once and Future King, a series that shines so bright,
The Sword in the Stone, a first part of the tale,
Influencing literature, stage productions, without fail.

Merlin's guidance, Wart's transformation so grand,
Into fish, squirrel, and bird, with magic at hand,
But comical misadventures overshadowed the lore,
Leaving depth and gravitas on the mythical shore.

The magical duel between Merlin and Madam Mim so fine,
Lacked connection to Wart's destiny divine,
And when Excalibur was pulled from its anvil high,
It felt like an afterthought, with Merlin absent in the sky.

Contemporary critics noted its shortcomings so clear,
Yet commercial success maintained Disney's status dear,
A powerhouse in Hollywood and global animation still stands tall,
Though The Sword in the Stone may not reach its predecessors' hall.

Yet modern audiences find joy in its whimsical tale so bright,
Vibrant animation that dances through day and night.
So let us cherish this film for what it brings to our sight.
