In shadows of the past, a tale unfolds,
Of spies and secrets, worlds untold,
De Niro's vision, a life's pursuit,
To capture the essence, the truth.

The Godfather's shadow looms large,
Coppola's masterpiece, a benchmark to share,
De Niro strives to recreate,
A spy epic, in his own estate.

The plot, a labyrinth of intrigue,
Cold War espionage, a dangerous spree,
Wilson's journey, from Yale's halls,
To CIA ranks, and secret walls.

The British mentor, WWII's stage,
The Soviets, the foe, the game to engage,
His obsession, work consumes his life,
Family distant, a tragic strife.

Coppola, the master, elusive,
De Niro, the actor, ambitious, true,
A solid cast, details precise,
The Good Shepherd, a film, a prize.

Yet, the script, a weakness, a flaw,
Too many stories, characters now,
Emotionless, cold, Wilson's plight,
Fate uncertain, a viewer's plight.

Caricatures, family members, flat,
Angelina Jolie, wasted, that,
Identifying facts, a game of fun,
But for most, a slow, confusing run.

Too late, the film, a decade past,
CIA's secrets, public at last,
De Niro's dream, a tale untold,
A spy epic, in shadows, grown old.
