Poetic Film Review: Children of Men (2006)
Time's fleeting hand, a subtle thief,
Can alter films, a reputation's grief.
A rare example, brief in time,
Children of Men, a tale sublime.
Set in a near-future world so bleak,
Where women's womb, a mystery, doth seek,
A fertile void, a race on brink,
The United Kingdom, a desperate link.
Theo, a bureaucrat, once cold,
Entwined in radical movement, his soul unfolds,
Kee, an immigrant's hope, a child to bear,
A journey to the Human Project, a cure to share.
From infertility, a story told,
A reflection of the present, yet to be bold,
Themes of immigration, human rights,
A dystopian mirror, society's plight.
Stylistic execution, a visual treat,
Long tracking shots, a visceral feat,
Immersive and bleak, a world revealed,
Cinematography, a director's field.
Performances commendable, yet not quite,
Clive Owen's Theo, forgettable in plight,
Julianne Moore, a pivotal role, yet brief,
Michael Caine, a shining light in grief.
A film of unrelenting theme,
A box office struggle, yet a growing gleam,
In recent years, its relevance shines bright,
A tale of humanity, in time's relentless fight.
