Godzilla: The Return of The King
So the new Godzilla trailer dropped at Comic-Con and I'm hyped! Ever since Godzilla went to sleep in 2004 after the great send-off that was Final Wars I've been waiting for a new epic Godzilla movie. Godzilla 2014 was a good start but didn't have nearly enough monster-brawling action for me. Shin Godzilla was, well it was something, not really a Godzilla movie in my mind but more a political response simulator. I also really didn't care for the Shin design, the Legendary Godzilla is more my speed. And to a lot of the critics who say the Legendary Godzilla is too fat I say, have you seen the Heisei Godzilla? By the final suit his thighs were almost twice the width of his torso. One thing I wished was done better in the 2014 movie was his Atomic Breath, which if the picture above is any indication they have tweaked it and it looks pretty good.
Now you may ask, why do you care so much about Godzilla? Well the short answer is I grew up with him. I used to get Strep-Throat a lot as a young kid and would have to stay home. My parents would rent me Godzilla movies from the video store and I would sit back and watch the giant monsters battle to the death. Eventually I had my tonsils removed but my love for Godzilla movies was here to stay. I watched everything I could get my hands on, I wore out a tape of Godzilla vs. Gigan (Ikr) because I watched it so many times. The first website my parents ever helped me navigate to was Barry's Temple of Godzilla( shout out if you are still around, I wasted a lot of hours on that site). Hell even my first Aol email address had a Godzilla reference in it. To sum it up, I've had Godzilla on the brain since I was around 5 years old.
This new movie by Legendary is a chance to make a dream of mine come true. I love the original movies don't get me wrong, but there is only so much you can do with rubber suits and fireworks. Godzilla King Of the Monsters( a call back to the U.S. version of the great classic Godzilla movie) is set to bring together Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan together in a CGI fueled brawl for the ages. If Legendary does this right they could be looking at the greatest Godzilla movie of all time. But that is a big if, I really hope they don't mess this one up because the potential of this movie is off the charts. I have a lot of emotional investment( and I'm sure many others do too) in this movie already, if they don't deliver it will not be pretty. But I have faith they will pull it off, someone at Legendary must be a Godzilla fan because this new trailer just pushes all the right buttons for a Godzilla fan. I'll leave you with the trailer that has officially taken the brakes off my hype train, and thank you for reading!
