Star Trek: Discovery (or how to destroy a beloved TV series by becoming politically correct) [spoilers alert]

in #movie7 years ago (edited)

I am so tired of political correctness oozing its way into literally anything nowadays. We're being taught that standards are a construct, same as role models and genders, everyone is the same and we should all get a participation prize in any competition.

I always thought evolution happened through competition and not by humans being sensitive to everything. I wonder what would have happened if we would have thought: "man, I sure as hell don't want to kill that veal to survive, I will hurt its parent's feelings" or "we have to be considerate to our fellow cavemen that are trying to kill us with spears and stones". I am quite sure we wouldn't be sitting here today if that were the case.

A nice thing I read once and it said: "hard times create good men, good men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times ..."...

Enter Star Trek: Discovery - women on the period edition.

Enter Star Trek: Discovery - exploration sucks, we're doing war this time.

We have an Asian female captain and a black female first officer (which is totally fine - feminists and SJW's will most likely not compute this so a disclaimer had to be placed)  however, the way they are behaving as captain and first officer only shows they are neither fit for duty and they should not be allowed anywhere near leading a ship.

Let's start with the first officer: she's been raised as a Vulcan but she is acting like a prepubescent child for the whole duration of the movie:

- first minutes - immediately dismisses opinions of a fellow bridge officer and acts all cocky because he was mansplaining (i know, mansplaining is a thing now right?)

- disregards all opinions for "let's leave that thing that's jamming all signals and it's located at the border with the Klingons alone" and goes right in and kills a Klingon dude starting a war right in the first 15 minutes! Remember this is a show called Discovery, in the Star Trek universe where it's all about wonder, peace, and exploration.

- leaves the sick bay looking like a zombie even though the medic says she might die, so she could go almost naked on the bridge all cocky to tell the captain there are Klingons. couldn't you have just used a damn phone? really?

- knocks the f**k out of the captain and hijacks the ship because she "knows this is the right thing"

- gets the captain killed because why not.

The captain

- lets the first officer do a bunch of decisions for her

- doesn't really act like a captain.

I also have no idea why they keep calling the first officer "Michael" throughout the Vulcan flashbacks so speculation here, but we might get injected with a good dose of transgender issues too along the series but I'm just speculating. I have no idea what's going to happen there.

At this point, I'd rather watch Orville because it's made in the spirit of Gene Roddenberry - all about exploration and good fun, even though it doesn't commit to either exploration or fun for that matter, so I am still waiting for it to find it's tune.

If you guys want to see a better articulated video on why Star Trek: Discovery sucks, feel free to watch a very nicely articulated video from The Dave Cullen show:

I love the Star Trek universe, i love DS9, Enterprise, Voyager and all the standalone movies as well as the old series. Star Trek stands for so much more than the political agenda of some triggered liberals trying to virtue signal at every opportunity given.

I really wish PC and SJW stayed out of the film industry. I think all it achieves is desensitising people and then you get real problems overlooked because of too much crying Wolf.

Congratulations @katmai , we r much excited to know about it, wonderful job you have done.

It just got really good. It's taken it back to what star trek was in the beginning, something that would upset a certain part of society

Nope it was controversial but never political this one is politically targeting and subliminal at maximum.

Congratulations @katmai! You have received a personal award!
