Wonder Woman Movie Review (WARNING: SPOILERS)
Where can I start with this great movie? I understand how this is completely overdue, but I know that it must be said.
I dragged one of my closest guy friends to the nearby movie theater the morning of it's opening, and I could say that I was truthfully on the edge of my seat THE ENTIRE TIME! From the subliminal comedy to the action packed war scenes, I was always on my toes. I believe that this movie was completely empowering to women of all ages!
But the critics were either very approving in the ratings or outright disliked the cultural bases of this film. A huge example is when FOX News complained that Wonder Woman, aka Diana Prince and played by Gal Gadot, was not "American Enough". The comment within itself is outrageous. I believe that the movie was amazing because it's cultural diversity was presented so greatly! As well as the comical scene's where Diana first left Themyscira and didn't know the basic cultural rights and wrongs of that specific society.
"It's a BABY!" Running up to a mother, holding her crying child.
So back to FOX News, the first couple scenes take place in the Amazon, where she is shown growing up from a child! So first of all, she was born in Themyscira, not in america. Second, she clearly has an accent, which puts more emphasis on the fact that she is not American. She is Amazonian. Most of the film was set in Europe. So if they wanted to catch some action in America, maybe in the next movie.. Just not in this origin story.
Furthermore, the movie was great. I noticed that they snuck in many scenes where women would become distracted or interrupted by a male figure. This happened early on and starts with when Steve Trevor landed on the Amazon, I mean.. Who wouldn't be distracted by him? Because Doctor Poison sure was for a moment. Anyways, It continues throughout the movie and takes a complete stop when Diana reused to go with Steve at the end, and instead fight Aries like her initial plan was.
If I had to choose a favorite fight scene, it would have to be when Diana, her companions, and the military were stuck in the cold war. She decided to go and help the people of the village that were being captured and enslaved. This scene was powerful because she was the ONLY woman that was fighting, and was brave enough to go out into the bad lands. Then the fight scene when they all made it across was one of the greatest that I have seen yet. I don't think that Patty Jenkins, the director, could have done anything different to make it better!
Hands down, on a scale of one to ten... The scale would be broken! So far, this movie is the best of 2017 in my opinion. And I cannot wait for sequel.
