I use a free program called "Photo Pad Editor" It's kind of annoying at times, but I did learn I need to have at least 20% overlap of pictures, and it will only stitch 8 pictures together. Resizing the image down is a necessity or it takes for ever and then you get an error message, not enough memory, that was annoying after waiting for an hour.

Do you mean that each image used needs to be re-sized before doing the stitching? I wonder if it is just poor memory management of the software or if that would apply for all such software? Thanks for the heads-up though.

It is a free program, so memory management might play a part, but I also have an older system and not a whole lot of memory. The original picture sizes are 5568X3712 17.2 MB. so pretty big pictures.

Yes, I suppose one would only need to keep the originals that big if one wanted to print posters or billboards of the stitched images.
