Stripping Down Yamaha Virago

in #motorcycle7 years ago (edited)

So the key to a cafe racer is always "Less is More". To me, the best looking cafe racers are super minimalist with the engine exposed and very little chrome. Starting out with the Virago, it began life as a cruiser with chrome, trying to be like a mini Harley. I like Harleys just fine but I have other plans for this motorcycle.

So to begin the conversion process, the first step is to remove lots and lots of "extra" parts that are not really necessary, or minimizing the parts that are. Also keeping in mind that the riders position will completely change so handlebars and foot peg locations will change.

As seen in the picture above, lots and lots of parts are removed and the bike is already looking better. A couple of items to note. I am using clip-ons instead of handlebars and I'm using a lithium battery due to its smaller size and ability to be laid flat.

More updates to come.
