Trust is an important part of a healthy relationship but it's something many people struggle with for a lot of reasons.
Trusting someone means that you think they are reliable, you have confidence in them and you feel safe with them physically and emotionally. Trust is both an emotional and logical act. Emotionally,it's where you expose your vulnerabilities to people but believing they will not take advantage of your openness. Logically,it's where we have assessed the probabilities of gain and loss, calculating expected utility based on hard performance data and conclude that the person in question will behave in a predictable manner. In practice, trust is a bit of both.
Emotions associated with trust includes:
• Companionship
• Friendship
• Love
• Agreement
• Relaxation
• Comfort

Trusting someone is a choice you make because you can't demand or prove trust.
Building trust in a healthy relationship happens gradually and it's really hard to know if you can trust someone but our instincts about another person and the way they behave overtime are two important things to consider when making that decision.
In a healthy relationship,it's important for both partners to trust and be trusted,to open up and be vulnerable with each other. Trust can't be built if only one partner is to do this.building trust requires mutual commitment.

Most times we hear people say,my trust has been broken in the past, how can I trust again?
It's understandable that you might have hard time trusting other people. It's important to remember that your new partner is not your old partner and making assumptions about them based on the actions of a completely different person isn't fair. Even if you've been hurt before,it is not an excuse for checking up on your new partner and demanding that they prove their trustworthiness to you. Also remember that trust is a choice and building it takes time. When we begin a relationship with someone, we are choosing to trust them.
If you are not able to trust anyone else right now, you might not just be ready to be in a relationship yet. Being able to trust yourself is an important component in trusting others. Being hurt in the past may have affected your ability to trust yourself and your own instincts. Remember the person who broke your trust in the past made that choice, you can't take responsibility for someone else action or decision.
