You are allowed to be lost. You’re allowed to have absolutely no idea what you want in life. You’re allowed to not know which path to take to reach your goals, and you’re allowed to walk down a hundred different paths until you find the one that takes you where you need to be. You’re allowed to feel passionately about something one day, and you’re allowed to want nothing to do with it the next. Truth is, you’re allowed to do anything you want because you’re young, it’s your life, and you haven’t even lived a fraction of it yet.
To you I say — enjoy the journey. Drink Coffee's out of solo red cups with your roommates on the living room floor of your apartment. Go on a walk, get lost, and stumble upon a secret place with a beautiful view that feels hidden from the world. Write the first draft of the story you’ve been dying to tell; then write the second, then write the third. Allow your heart to be broken, give all the consequential negative emotions time to manifest, and then convert that negative energy into positive reassurance that you’re going to be okay. Don’t ponder on where these moments will take you. Don’t plague yourself with the fear that you don’t know where you’re going, because to know where you’re going requires a map, and a map is useless if you’re not exploring.
Explore the world. Explore yourself. Discover new interests. Take classes in subjects you never thought you’d enjoy. Accept every invitation offered to you. Stay out later. Wake up earlier. Step outside of your comfort zone. Just whatever you do, don’t give up. Don’t freak out if you don’t have it all figured out in your twenties. Nobody does. Surrender yourself to the journey and enjoy each destination. Soak it all in. Harvest every feeling that arises from your insides. Don’t forget what it’s like to feel lost when you find yourself again. Keep an open mind, and learn to look at the world through a different set of eyes.
You’re doing well. You’re going to be okay. Just surrender."
