DON'T LIVE LIKE RATS- Lessons from My Boss, Big brother and Mentor..

in #motivation6 years ago

Experiential knowledge is far better than theoretical knowledge. You learn best from those who can teach you from their experience.

Watch what they do and when they speak to you, run with their instructions because it's the same principles that brought them to where they are.

So it was when my Boss, big brother, role model and mentor, Mr. H Z Idogun, (MD, Metropolitan Publishers Ltd) was speaking on the topic, "BE THE BEST" at the end of year party organised by the company, I listened with rapt attention and gleaned lots of wisdom.

Let me share some with you here:

  • Don't run like rats who have no vision -when rats are being pursued they have no destination in mind, they run and bend for circumstances and end up anywhere.
Don't run your life like rats, have a vision for your life, know where you're are heading, be focussed and be determined to get there.

  • Increase your capacity to be the best on a continuous basis - Capacity building in different areas of your life is paramount to be successful in life.
The problem we have in our nation today, is that we have leaders who have lower capacity.
When you are led by someone with a lower capacity, it's natural to complain, but the person with such limited capacity may think it's doing the best.
And what happens is that these leaders lower your own capacity and intelligence to their own standards .
And when you complain that I'm more than this, it means you're opposing their leadership style.
Will you allow someone with a lower capacity to lead you?
By all means increase your capacity.
The higher you want to go, the more you should increase your capacity.

  • Develop yourself to be the best- Be an apprentice under someone who is already doing what you want to do.
Use what you have now to plan for your future.
Read books. Refine your talent. Horn your skills.
Be diligent - be meticulous and thorough.

  • Have a role model - learn from people who are older and wiser than you.
    Walk with them.
The irony of having older people as role model is that while these older people are waiting for us to approach them so they can pour their knowledge and wisdom unto us, the younger people are afraid or not comfortable to reach out to them.
Remember, where there is no counsel, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there's safety.
Save your future of impending danger of hardship, by drawing on the experience of the wise and most importantly, following their instructions.
Don't just be a reader or hearer, be a doer - that's the hallmark of successful people. You'll succeed in 2019.
Yes, You can, You will and You Must Succeed.
