The truth behind entreprenership

in #motivation7 years ago (edited)

The first thing people see when they think of an entrepreneur is of their success, all the free time and money they could ever wish for, or "how motivated they constantly seem. What they don't see behind the scenes action of how many sleepless nights, or stressful beginnings of how you'll make your next check.

The truth is entrepreneurship can be hard as shit and unless you are okay with being under constant stress and having to adapt to different situations in each new venture then I can assure you it's not for you

Some of the things you usually see that make it seem so flashy are the same old bullshit schemes like "How to make six figures in a week" "make money while you sleep with this automated system" or "Be your own boss and make a million dollars in a day". It even sounds like bullshit, right?

Be willing to put in the work
While some of these are possible, you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning twice because it involves an extreme work ethic, consistency, lots of money and the ability to never give up on the true goal.

A lot of courses and systems being promoted promise little work, it's just not true. Sure, there are rare exceptions, but if you ask the majority successful entrepreneurs how their days looked in the beginning and I'm willing to bet that they included going into work hours before everyone else and leaving long after.

You have to be willing to bust your ass. Everyone the same 24 hours, not everyone is willing to dedicate all 24 hours to building a business. Gary V said it best “Stop watching fucking Lost … if you want this. If you want bling bling. If you want to buy the Jets. If you want to do shit. Work. That’s how you get it.”

Society now a day craves instant gratification, we want it now and we want it fast. Being able to get movies instantly from Netflix, send and receive long letter through email, using our smartphone to get an Uber to be waiting for us after a meeting.

The cold hard truth is there are no short cuts, magical secrets or new technology that will give you a head up on everyone else that will make hundreds of thousands of dollars appear in your bank account overnight. The real way to be a successful entrepreneur is to bust your ass day in and day out, find what you like to do and do it REALLY REALLY well. Anyone trying to tell you differently is going to try and sell you something.

Why are there so many systems out there lying and deceiving people and eventually letting down want to be entrepreneurs? It relates to the instant gratification part of the article, because there would be a lot less people wanting to start their own business if they made realistic titles like.

quit your job and worry about your financial stability for years
** how to get four hours of sleep and deal with constant anxiety**
learn how to secure a non, guaranteed paycheck

If you saw articles like that would you click on them? I think not.
Articles and books like that wouldn't work because they do not excite anyone. Would entrepreneurship be a hot topic if there were stories published about all the failures and destroyed dreams? Not a chance. Instead, startups that receive billion-dollar pre-revenue valuations are featured.

people have said it before and I’ll mention it again, entrepreneurs need to know it's not going to be quick, it damn sure isn't going to be easy and success is rare. As Gary said "learn to love the process".

Understand failure is very possible
Entrepreneurs are strong willed individuals, knowing that we have no guarantee of success and willing to put it all on the line takes balls. Without risk there is no reward and there will be no reward if you never take that first jump to risk it all and you must fully embrace failure, no matter how many times you get knocked down you have to jump back up and shrug it off like nothing happened. you shouldn't expect failure but you need to know that it is possible.

You must be willing to constantly learn
A true entrepreneur is never done learning or studying, he or she is constantly looking to find and learn information and insight. Even with almost no free time, I take time as an entrepreneur to read at least an hour a day, network and connect with like-minded people and build relationships with mentors and highly influential people. There is no "off" switch for entrepreneurs when it comes to learning.

So, the next time you see a successful entrepreneur or a new scheme or technology that is promising to make you money remember this article, remember that we struggle throughout life just like everyone else. As for me, four years ago I was at a very rough place in my life and if I didn't make drastic changes I would be dead. I decided to bust my ass and do everything humanly possible to get out of that life and i made it. Now, even though I have failed many of times, I know that I can make it and I will not give up no matter how rough shit gets, it could always be worse. It's the process that I love, and I will stop at nothing to reach these goals.
