Brain Training
“More than those who hate you, more than all your enemies, an undisciplined mind does far greater harm” - Buddha
Studies have shown that training your mind will not only enhance performance and improve productivity but also add to your overall enjoyment. Whatever your age, whatever your goals, you can learn how to stay focused. You can learn how to deal with adversity. You can learn how to stay motivated in difficult times. Avoid those fatal distractions.
But just like going to the gym and training your body physically, it takes time and effort to build your body mentally, however, the more work you do on the inside, the more it will show on the outside.
It is said that successful people live their lives backwards. How so? By creating a future, that they then live into. So let’s try a mental exercise:
ACT
The A in this equation stands for accepting your present state, identifying and understanding your strengths and weaknesses.
The C represents creating your desired step - what are your goals? Visualise them.
Finally T represents taking the necessary steps to get you there. Your success is a journey, and the longest journey begins with that first step.
Our limits begin where our vision ends. You have to visualise yourself as a no-limits person. For years and years, breaking the 4-minute mile was deemed physically impossible. Then Roger Bannister came along in 1954 and did it in a time of 3:59.4. In the two years proceeding this great feat, fifty other runners went on to do the same. Why was this? Because they had that image in their minds, Roger Bannister was their model for success.
It was something that was seemingly impossible. That couldn’t be done. Therefore, no one attempted it. But wait, when someone had the audacity to attempt it and proved that it can be done, suddenly 50 people are able to do the same. Running a mile in 4 minutes was deemed physically impossible, but that was dispelled. Nothing changed in the physical biology of a human suddenly, there was no incorporation of bionic legs or shoes.
It was the mindset that changed bingo the impossible was suddenly possible. If you can’t see yourself doing something, then you have just set yourself a limit.
You need to focus on strengthening your mind both patiently and persistently, to help see beyond our current limits. To stretch beyond your comfort zone, and fulfil your desired potential.
