KEEP GOOD COMPANY

George Washington said “It’s better to be alone than to be in bad company”. This is because our friends, colleagues and associations have a pronounced effect on us.

The more time we spend with people, the more like them we become and vice versa. Sometimes, this process occurs so slowly and is not so pronounced but in the long run, becomes evident. It is quite easy when this is between two people as whoever has more influence and discipline in character can influence the other more but in cases with groups, the general behavioral pattern or habits within the other group members is what any new member begins to exhibit over time.
In the light of this, it is really important that we be very selective of the company we keep or accommodate as regards to our goals and plans. We all desire certain things and it is important to keep company that will help us achieve that desire one way or another. It is much more easier and quicker working or being with people with the identical vision or similar goals as you. That way, you work together, share ideas and thoughts and perhaps resources to achieve the desired results.

Also, our sources of advice and inspiration or perhaps the people or things we look up to for guidance also matter a lot. Most times, we refer to these people as mentors.

You must be careful in choosing a mentor as their influence on you has more effect than you could possibly account for. Also, to gain more from a mentor, you must be sure that after due diligence (research), this person has been where you want to be or has the information and push you need to get there.
In conclusion, choose your company wisely. Ask yourself, how much has the company I keep today helped me in achieving my goal? Are they a source of motivation or discouragement? Do I still associate with them? Depending on your answers, you may also want to ask again; What do I need to achieve my goals faster and better? Who can push me to run faster in achieving those goals and even more ?

Thanks for sticking around dear reader, have a wonderful time.
